Apple to capture Indian market with lower priced iPhone4 mobiles
Apple is reportedly planning to turn to its old legacy model iPhone4 at a lower price to target the consumers in India.
According to TechCrunch, many aspirational consumers in India are ready to pay an extra 100-150 dollars to own an iPhone.
According to the report, Apple is planning to sell 8GB iPhone 4 models in India for around INR 22,000, which is going to be about 70 dollars less than the previous retail price of around INR 26,500 at the time of its launch.
The strategy has been devised after Apple accounted for less than 2 per cent of all mobile sales in India in 2013.
Apple's plans to relaunch its iPhone4 in India at the affordable price has taken many people by surprise and wonder as to why would a strong niche brand would resort to bring out one of its phones at a price that is almost
Rs.
10,000 less than its original price of
Rs.
26,500.
According to a newspaper report, Apple's decision to relaunch its 8GB iPhone4 in India was necessitated by the falling sales of its top-end Apple handsets in India.
The tech giant is focusing on India and in a bid to boost its market share in the ever growing emerging market. The Indian market is currently shifting from the feature phone to smartphone. But, it is also a price sensitive-market.
The 16GB iPhone 5s was launched at a price of
Rs.
53,500 in India and for people in emerging markets such as India buying such a phone would be a costly affair. Even the so-called cheaper version iPhone 5c is not so affordable priced as it is at
Rs.
41,900.
In markets such as the US and Europe, the iPhone 4 has lost ground since the more latest versions are up for grabs.
In India, there is still a huge demand for the iPhone4. And, an iPhone at
Rs.
15,000 is going to be an eye-catcher for it has a strong brand value.
